- Every spring, we award a $4,000 to $6,000 grant to nonprofit organizations that provide summer programs with a strong music element to underprivileged youth. Click here to access the application for the David Glaser Education Grant.
- Every year, we award a $5,000 college scholarship for a high school senior who will major in music performance at a four-year academic institution. Click here to access the application for the Tim King Music Performance Scholarship.
- We fund music lessons for students at the Wiley H. Bates Middle School Performing and Visual Arts Program.

(Annapolis, MD—April 24, 2026) Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians, Inc. (AMFM), a nonprofit organization that supports professional Annapolis-area musicians and music programs for youth, has awarded its annual Tim King Music Performance Scholarship of $5,000 to Broadneck High School senior Ferris Kimberly. This fall, Mr. Kimberly will enroll as a freshman at Shenandoah University, where he will be pursuing a degree in music production and recording technology.
Mr. Kimberly’s instrumental focus is on the guitar; however, he is also an accomplished bass player, drummer and singer. As an Apex Arts student through all four years of high school, and Tri-M for the last two years, he is an excellent performer, demonstrating instrument versatility and acumen. He has been described as a mentor to younger students and a team player, forming bands with other musicians and arranging the music. His instructor described Mr. Kimberly as a “highly motivated music student . . . [taking on] a prominent leadership role in the class . . . and a natural leader in our music program.”
Mr. Kimberly described how the pandemic provided an opportunity for him to become more productive on the guitar. He feels comfortable performing in large venues, and plans to continue performing after graduation, recognizing that there is a need for financial stability during the pursuit of music as a career.
This is the scholarship’s ninth year. Scholarship candidates were evaluated on several criteria—including their participation in high school music performance groups, volunteer community-based music opportunities, private lessons, a videoed performance piece, and an essay—to assess their commitment to pursuing music performance academically. “Tim King was a significant member of the Annapolis music scene, and we are thrilled to honor his legacy annually by awarding this scholarship to a deserving and talented young musician. We congratulate Ferris and will follow his career with great interest,” says AMFM Vice-President Carolyn Krohn.
(Annapolis, MD—June 20, 2025) Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians, Inc. (AMFM) is awarding $6,000 from its David Glaser Education Grant that will be shared between two organizations whose local summer music programs benefit underserved students in the greater Annapolis area:
Annapolis Symphony Orchestra – in support of its Summer Program which provides a high-level musical education to students of all cultural and economic backgrounds with weekly private lessons, ensemble rehearsals, guest artist workshops, access to the Annapolis Symphony performances, recitals, and ensemble concerts.
Compass Rose Theater– in support of its Youth Theater Education program which provides comprehensive theater arts education to youth ages 5 through teen, including full-scale youth productions, seasonal classes, and summer camps, with an intentional focus on serving underserved communities.
“We are so happy to continue honoring David Glaser’s legacy by supporting both of these local youth programs,” says AMFM board president, PJ Thomas. “Creating opportunities for our next generation of musicians is the perfect way to honor David.”
These grants are just one of AMFM’s youth programs. The Tim King Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a high school senior who will study music performance in college and subsidies for underserved students who take lessons with local music organizations.
